The 2022 Murdoch University Creative Media Showcase
The Murdoch University Creative Media Showcase is an event run in November each year to display and commend work done by students within the Creative Media discipline.
Each year, the event is themed differently based on what the students think represents their university journey. The theme for 2022 was “The Buzz”, representing the thrill of bringing new ideas to life within any creative space. It captures the idea that we are all connected and that there’s excitement and energy within the Creative Media space and the work that we do.
The showcase is planned, designed and installed by Graphic Design students within the GRD310 Service Design unit. A team of 18 students came together to build this from inception to completion. The team was split into smaller groups that managed spatial, branding, publication and digital aspects of the showcase.
Within the publication team, myself and three other designers created a book that reflected the branding of the exhibition and showcased each of the disciplines’ work (Creative Writing, Games Art, Graphic Design, Photography, Sound and Screen Production, Theatre and Strategic Communication).
We also assisted other teams in developing branded posters, shirts, flyers, gift boxes and badges. The visual identity aimed to encapsulate what 'buzz’ looked and felt like, and brand patterns that helped represent each discipline’s uniqueness.
The highlight of this project was simultaneously completing the publication in time for the event as well as preparation and setting up everything up on the day.
It was rewarding to see how many attendees interacted with the publication and how proud the students were to see their work showcased.
In total, more than 600 people registered for tickets on Eventbrite, with a number of additional walk-ins.
